Harnessing the Power of Events: Our Theory of Change
We’re harnessing the power of events to fight homelessness through opportunity:
Creating careers, boosting wellbeing, and showing that when done right – production can uplift people and planet.
And in doing so, we’re breaking down stigma, reshaping mindsets, and building connected communities that improve lives and elevate the events industry.
These are the beliefs and principles that guide us:
Fair and fulfilling work and careers should not just be for a privileged few
People affected by homelessness and inequality have much to offer our workforce and the events sector
Going beyond job offers to build futures and security through training and careers
Events have the power to build connections and spark progress
Doing right by people means doing right by the planet too.
How We Plan To Achieve Our Vision:
We first started working with a Theory of Change model in 2022. The aim was to unpack and communicate the impact of our Academy programme, to further understand the core problem we aim to solve - homelessness and the added challenge of finding and sustaining work once becoming homeless - and to define our target groups.
Why use this model? As James Noble - Principal: Measurement and Evaluation, NPC stated:
“Throughout our work and personal lives we have aims and ideas about how to acheive them but we rarely take the time to think these through, scrutinise and articulate them. A Theory of Change encourages us to reflect on our aims and plans, to discuss them with others and make them explicit.”
Since 2022, the problem of homelessness has worsened. So this new Theory of Change, pictured above, encompasses our wider range of impact programmes and it will be used to push our impact forward.
Going Further Together:
The key message is simple: you have impact.
Our call to action is this: What small change will you make tomorrow to further accelerate the fight against homelessness and inequality?
You could:
Create work fair and fulfilling work for people affected by homelessness, by working with Connection Crew
Drive action for events that do good and join or follow our Roundtables network
Raise standards for people working across the supply chain and demand the Living Wage from all your suppliers
Move the inclusive dial forward, take our Inclusive Sites and Venues Survey
Pledge to support people experiencing homelessness in the workplace and join the Crisis Homelessness Alliance
Join our network of referral and employment partners to connect more people affected by homelessness with work that works for them
